When Amazon Goes Quiet: Metadata, Packaging, and Proof of Life

Titles vanish in search, or never sell, for more than one reason. The ledger is metadata, packaging, categories, keywords, and a sales history too thin to prove the catalog is alive.

Authors ask why their own titles vanish in search, or why sales never start. The answer is rarely one villain. It is a ledger: metadata out of tune, packaging that never survived the thumbnail, categories that lie, keywords that match no one’s search, and a sales history too thin to whisper that something living is here.

Dial in the metadata and the overall packaging. Audit them on a schedule. Then remember the harder half — marketing, promotion, and consistent sales are what validate the background data. Visibility accumulates; it does not descend.

A clean subtitle. Categories that tell the truth. A cover that still works at postage-stamp size. Keywords written the way readers actually type. Then the work of showing up where those readers already gather, so the catalog has evidence to reward.

There is no romance in that sentence. That is why it belongs in print.
