FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Publishing Times Launches as the First Free Daily Broadsheet for Self-Published Authors

A new digital newspaper covering the business of indie publishing — updated daily, always free

LOS ANGELES, CA — August 2026 — The Publishing Times (thepublishingtimes.com) is now live as the first free daily digital broadsheet built specifically for self-published authors, small publishers, and the people who work alongside them.

The site pulls headlines and stories from more than 80 publishing industry sources every day, adds editorial context, and presents it all in a format that looks and reads like a proper newspaper — because that's what indie publishing deserves.

What You'll Find

There's a gap in publishing media. The trade publications serve traditional publishing. The blogs serve beginners. Nobody was covering the day-to-day business of indie publishing with any regularity or depth. That's what The Publishing Times does.

  • Daily news roundups drawn from dozens of industry sources, with short editorial takes on what matters and why
  • Original columns including a weekly "Publisher's Desk" piece and long-form reporting on trends affecting indie authors
  • An events calendar tracking book fairs, writing conferences, and industry networking opportunities worldwide
  • Community features like weekly polls and a classified ads board where authors can find editors, designers, and other publishing services
  • A reading list so you can bookmark stories and come back to them later

Why This Exists

Self-publishing is a billion-dollar industry. Authors are running real businesses — managing ad spend, tracking royalties across platforms, making distribution decisions that affect their income for years. But until now, there hasn't been a free daily publication that treats this work with the seriousness it warrants.

"We got tired of piecing together industry news from fifteen different blogs, three Facebook groups, and a subreddit. So we built the thing we wanted to read every morning with coffee."

The Look

The Publishing Times uses a blackletter masthead, column layouts, and the kind of typography you'd expect from a newspaper that's been around for a hundred years. That's intentional. The design says: this is real journalism about a real industry, not another marketing blog with a stock photo header. It works on phones, supports dark mode, and loads fast.

About

The Publishing Times is a free, ad-supported daily publication for the indie publishing community. New stories go up every day. Original editorial runs multiple times a week.
