The New Love Languages by Joan Nwosu: Human Design's Ten Love Gates, Explained
Joan Nwosu's The New Love Languages, due from GracePoint Publishing on November 17, 2026, applies the Human Design system to relationships through ten "Love Gates."

What is The New Love Languages?
Joan Nwosu's forthcoming book, set for release by GracePoint Publishing on November 17, 2026, is a relationship book built on Human Design, a personality system that maps a person's birth data onto a chart of energy centers and 'gates.' Human Design, a personality framework, maps birth data across energy centers and what it terms "gates." Nwosu highlights ten of these gates, which she calls Love Gates, and uses them to explain how people give, receive and experience love.
The idea behind it
The title deliberately echoes Gary Chapman's The 5 Love Languages, one of the best-selling relationship books of the past three decades, which sorts expressions of love into categories such as words of affirmation and acts of service. Nwosu's pitch is different. According to the book's official site and her author page, the Love Gates describe who a person becomes when they love, where they tend to distort their own truth in relationships, and what they need from a partner. Recurring relationship problems are framed as patterns built into a person's design rather than as personal failures.
The book offers tools for spotting what it calls shadow patterns, shifting into healthier expressions of each gate, and judging compatibility with a potential partner.
About the author
Nwosu works in relationship coaching through a practice called Love By Design. In posts promoting the book she has described it as the product of 18 months of work on a single question about why people repeat the same patterns in love.
A note for skeptical readers
Human Design is a spiritual and self-reflection framework, not a scientific model of personality, and has not been validated by psychological research. Readers who approach it as a vocabulary for reflection rather than a diagnosis will get the most out of a book like this. The same caution applies to Chapman's love languages, which research has found to be a useful conversation starter more than a predictive tool.
Who it suits
Readers already interested in Human Design, astrology-adjacent self-help, or relationship coaching are the clear audience. Couples looking for a shared language to talk about needs may also find the framework helpful, whatever they think of its foundations.
