Marvel and WEBTOON Launch a New Comics App as Marvel Unlimited Winds Down
Marvel's new subscription app, built by WEBTOON Entertainment, launches November 16 with more than 35,000 comics. Marvel Unlimited sunsets December 7.

What is replacing Marvel Unlimited? A new Marvel Comics app built by WEBTOON Entertainment. On October 5, 2026, Marvel announced that the app, called "Marvel Comics powered by WEBTOON," will launch November 16 with more than 35,000 digital comics, and that Marvel Unlimited, its existing subscription service, will sunset on December 7, 2026.
Marvel says the app will carry current and classic comics from Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios, and will keep adding features and stories from across Disney's portfolio. WEBTOON developed it from the ground up for mobile and web. It will support both traditional page-based comics and vertical-scroll formats.
"We know that there is a large audience of readers who are looking to experience comics digitally, and there is no richer library than Marvel Comics," said David Abdo, general manager, Marvel Comics and Franchise. Yongsoo Kim, president of WEBTOON Entertainment, said the app combines "WEBTOON's expertise in building digital comics platforms with Marvel's unparalleled storytelling legacy."
Two tiers, and a wait for new issues
The app has two subscription tiers, according to Marvel's announcement. The Base tier costs $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year, plus tax. It includes the full Marvel Comics digital library, with the latest issues available as soon as 3 months after their print release. The Ultimate tier costs $12.49 a month or $99.99 a year, plus tax, and adds new comics as soon as 30 days after print release.
Fans can pre-register now at marvel.webtoon.com for a limited-time founding member price of $59.99, plus tax, for the first year of Ultimate Annual. Marvel's terms say that pre-order is charged at sign-up, the subscription starts when the code is redeemed after launch, and it then renews at $99.99 a year until canceled.
Marvel lists the app's discovery features as a cover-scroll interface, personalized recommendations based on reading history, character and creator pages, a Pull List that surfaces new issues from followed series, characters, and creators, an Upcoming Releases view, and updated smart panels.
What happens to Marvel Unlimited subscribers
Marvel's FAQ says Marvel Unlimited members will be able to import their existing library, reading progress, redeemed comics, and saved issues into the new app once it launches on November 16. To do that, readers need to create a WEBTOON account, and Marvel asks members to import before December 7, 2026, so they can confirm the library moved over.
All active Marvel Unlimited subscriptions will get an automated, prorated refund for the unused part of their term on or around November 16, 2026, according to the FAQ, which says to allow 3-5 business days for it to appear.
The FAQ lays out the shutdown in steps. Marvel Unlimited stopped accepting new sign-ups on October 5. On December 7, the app stops adding new content and members can no longer read comics in it. Members can still browse their library until December 21 to make sure the import worked, and the Marvel Unlimited app will be removed on December 28, 2026.
The New York Comic Con preview
Marvel will preview a beta version of the app at New York Comic Con, October 8 to 11, at booth #2435. Attendees can pre-register there and claim the founding member price. Marvel says the first 2,000 fans to claim the offer at the show will get a limited-edition Marvel Comics print ID card.
Why it matters for authors
More than 35,000 Marvel comics are moving onto an app built by a webcomics platform. Marvel's FAQ calls WEBTOON its licensee, and the new app supports both page-based comics and vertical-scroll formats. Writers and artists working in comics and webcomics can watch how that mix plays out with a library this size.
The pricing also shows how a large publisher is valuing early access. Marvel is charging readers more for new issues 30 days after print than for the same issues after 3 months, while keeping the back catalog in both tiers. Indie creators who sell digital comics or serialize work can use those windows as a reference point.
The announcement does not say how creators are paid for reads on the new app. Marvel says more details on the import process will be shared closer to launch.
