Anthropic Settlement Extends the Allocation Window to 60 Days

What should a claimant do when co-claimants disagree on how to split a work in the Anthropic copyright settlement? Send supporting allocation information within 60 days of access to the consolidated claim, and plan around a first payment round the administrator expects on or before November 15, 2026. The official settlement site says the Court granted final approval on July 20, 2026. Between September 2 and 4, 2026, the Settlement Administrator sent claim information notices to claimants with a valid email address on file. Claimants without a valid email were mailed shortly thereafter, or will be mailed shortly. A notice for a valid and timely claim includes a Claim Number and PIN for the Allocation Portal, where the claimant can see shared claim details.

The allocation window is 60 days

Where all claimants do not agree on the appropriate allocation for a work, they may submit additional information supporting their proposed allocation. The Settlement Administrator asks for that information expeditiously and within 60 days of receiving access to the consolidated claim information.

The 30-day period referenced in FAQ 26, and in the notices sent between September 2 and 4, has been extended to 60 days so Class Members have more time to gather documents and try to resolve disagreements.

This initial period, originally 30 days and now 60 days, does not create a deadline by which all disagreements between co-claimants must be resolved. Dispute resolution may take longer than 60 days for some claims. Works whose disputes are not resolved before the first distribution will not be in that distribution. They go to a subsequent distribution.

First payments on or before November 15

The parties have informed the Court of their agreement that the Effective Date has passed, assuming that no late-filed appeal is permitted to go forward. The administrator expects to send the first round of payments on or before November 15, 2026, for works where claimants do not disagree on the allocation, or quickly reach agreement, and where claimants have provided all the information required to process payment.

Other works may take longer while disagreements are resolved and further information is collected. Payments left out of the initial distribution will be held temporarily in reserve in the escrow account that holds the Settlement Fund. Payment follows the method selected on each valid Claim Form. Claimants should report any update to payment information after the Claim Form, including a current address if they chose a check.

The extension leaves the old deadlines closed

The 60-day period is the time to submit allocation information when co-claimants disagree. Claim filing, opt-out, objection, and re-inclusion keep the dates already posted, and each of those dates has passed. The deadline to submit a claim was March 30, 2026. The deadline to exclude yourself (opt out) or object passed on February 9, 2026. The deadline to re-include a previously excluded work was March 9, 2026, and a work that was excluded can no longer be reincluded. Why it matters for authors

An author who shares a claim with a publisher, a coauthor, or another rightsholder, and who disagrees on the split, has 60 days from access to the consolidated claim information to submit documents supporting a proposed allocation. No disagreement, or a quick agreement, plus complete payment information, is what the administrator says puts a work in the first round, expected on or before November 15, 2026.
