Storytel Opens a Swedish Store for Physical Books
Storytel opened an online store for physical books in Sweden on October 1, with an exclusive discount for subscribers. The store reaches the app later in October.

Can a streaming service sell the hardcover? On October 1, 2026, Storytel Group said it was opening a new online store for physical books in Sweden. The company's release, distributed at 11:00 that morning, says the store is meant to give readers a more seamless way to buy print editions, with an exclusive discount for Storytel subscribers. It opened that day at storytelbooks.com. Storytel says the same store will also be available from the Storytel app later in October, so the move from finding a book to buying the printed copy can happen inside the service.
What the store is
The release does not name a discount percentage, a publisher-by-publisher print list, or a shipping map beyond Sweden. What it does say is that the storefront is new, that it sells physical books, and that subscribers get an exclusive discount. The point Claus Wamsler-Nielsen, Storytel's chief commercial officer, makes is about format. "We want to offer the best experience regardless of format," he said. "With our own bookstore, book lovers can now buy physical books directly from Storytel, and going from listening to a book to owning it becomes easier." He added that the company believes the store "will benefit the publishing industry long-term and help more people access the world of literature."
Helena Gustafsson, chief content and publishing officer, tied the same move to authors. "We know that our listeners love books and enjoy switching between reading and listening," she said. "This initiative makes it easier to discover stories in the format that best suits the moment. At the same time, it helps authors reach their entire audience across all formats."
Storytel says the store runs on a newly developed e-commerce platform delivered by Sweden Buyersclub.
Who runs the shop behind the shop
Sweden Buyersclub's own release, issued the same day in Swedish, says the company is delivering both the technical platform and the day-to-day operation of Storytel Books, its name for Storytel Group's new online bookstore for physical books. Buyersclub says the deal is the first agreement in its new business-to-business area, and that the partnership was first communicated on June 18, 2026.
Buyersclub says it is responsible for the whole chain: the technical platform, operations, product and order flows, logistics, customer service, and ongoing commercial development. The store, it says, runs on Buyersclub's own modular e-commerce platform, rebuilt from the ground up over the past year, with AI integrated into central flows and functions. Those functions, as the release lists them, are product data, content, customer-relationship management, campaign control, search, recommendations, and order handling, in one technical environment. The company says that setup reduces the need for separate systems and integrations.
Emil Henriksson, Buyersclub's chief executive, said in that Swedish release that the platform and the operating organization can develop the customer experience and, at the same time, make the work behind each order more efficient. He called the assignment to deliver the platform and the operation of Storytel's new bookstore strong proof of what the company has built, and a commercial breakthrough for its business-to-business offering.
Buyersclub's description of its own business says it already runs niche web shops, including bookhero.se, on the same technical platform, staff, warehouse, and logistics as its core membership store. The Storytel shop sits in a separate part of the business: Buyersclub says it is the first agreement in its business-to-business area, not one of its own niche storefronts.
The company opening the door
The Storytel release describes the group as a storytelling company whose stated purpose is "Leading the future of storytelling, we move the world through stories." It operates through two business areas, Streaming and Publishing. Streaming, the release says, provides one of the world's most extensive digital libraries, with over 1.8 million audiobook and e-book titles available in 55 languages. That service reaches more than 2.7 million subscribers through the group's brands Storytel, Mofibo, and Audiobooks.com. The publishing side produces books through houses the release names: Norstedts Publishing Group, Lind & Co, People's, Gummerus, Bokfabriken, Overamstel Publishers, and Storyside. The group is headquartered in Stockholm. The release points readers to storytelgroup.com for more on the company.
Those figures are the company's description of itself on the day it announced the print store. They sit behind a narrower fact. The new shop is a Swedish storefront for physical books. The release does not say the print store is live outside Sweden, and it does not describe a change to the streaming catalog.
Why it matters for authors
Authors who already have titles inside Storytel's streaming service, or who publish through one of the houses the group names, now have a company-owned path from a listen to a printed copy for readers in Sweden. The author-facing claim in the release is that the store creates another way for authors to reach their readers, and Gustafsson says it helps authors reach their entire audience across all formats. The release does not publish a revenue share, a discount rate, or a list of which print titles are stocked. The operational fact underneath the announcement is the one Buyersclub states. Sweden Buyersclub is running the platform, the orders, the logistics, and customer service.
For writers outside Sweden, the piece that travels is the sequence. A subscription service that already sells listening time is adding a print checkout, first on the web and later in October inside the app, with a subscriber discount the release does not quantify. The next check is whether a given print edition is actually on storytelbooks.com, and on what terms. The announcement itself is a Swedish opening, dated October 1, with the app step still ahead.
