Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang Reunite at Image Comics for Roam

Image Comics says Paper Girls collaborators Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang will launch Roam, a 50-page first issue, on February 24, 2027.

Are Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang making a new comic together? Yes. In a press release datelined New York, October 10, 2026, Image Comics said Roam "reunites Saga writer Brian K. Vaughan and Catwoman: Lonely City creator Cliff Chiang for their first new ongoing series in over a decade."

The release calls them "the Eisner Award winning team behind Paper Girls." It says the launch "was announced exclusively at IGN today," ahead of Vaughan and Chiang "taking to the stage at NYCC for a Spotlight panel to discuss the new collaboration."

What the series is

Image describes the book in two sentences. "Exploring the power and peril that come with new adulthood, Roam is a timeless adventure about the quest each person takes in life to finally find their team."

IGN's exclusive, written by Jesse Schedeen and posted October 10, 2026, prints what Schedeen calls the official description. Its first line is not in the Image press release: "In the future, everyone gets to be a superhero… but only while you're young."

The rest of that IGN description follows the publisher's release: the Eisner Award-winning Paper Girls team, a first new ongoing series in over a decade, and an "action-packed 50-page" first issue arriving "in comic stores this February 2027."

Who is making it

Vaughan is quoted in the Image release: "Cliff has already drawn the first several issues of Roam, and I can't wait for readers to see this breathtakingly original world he and our gifted collaborators Matt Wilson and Jared Fletcher helped create." He adds: "Thanks so much to the readers and retailers out here who are up for exploring something new with us!"

Chiang's statement in the same release says: "There's no bigger thrill than breathing life into new worlds with your friends, that electric feeling of collaboration. Roam is unlike anything Brian and I have done before, but inspired by our love for comics as a medium. It's been a joy to reunite with our trusted teammates Matt and Jared, and I'm incredibly grateful to Image Comics for continuing the creative partnership and exploration that began with Paper Girls. It's going to be a wild ride!"

The Image release names Matt Wilson and Jared Fletcher as collaborators and, in Chiang's words, teammates. It does not list their jobs. IGN does. Schedeen writes that the creative team "also includes colorist Matt Wilson and letterer Jared Fletcher."

Both covers of the first issue are by the artist. The release lists "Cover A by Chiang" and "Cover B by Chiang."

When it comes out, and where

Image says "the extra-length, 50-page Roam #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, February 24, 2027."

The same release says the issue "will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Google Play, Apple's iBooks, Barnes & Noble's Nook, Scribd's Everand, Kobo, Overdrive, Hoopla, Sweet app, Comic Plus, and more."

Schedeen writes that readers can preorder a copy at a local comic shop. The Image release gives the shop date and the digital list. It does not name a price, a page count past the 50-page first issue, or a schedule after issue 1.

What the announcement does not say

The release does not say how many issues are planned, whether the series is monthly, or what the cover price will be. It does not describe the plot beyond new adulthood, finding a team, and, in the IGN description, a future in which people are superheroes only while they are young. Vaughan says Chiang has already drawn "the first several issues." He does not give a number.

The release also does not say the series continues Paper Girls. Chiang calls Roam "unlike anything Brian and I have done before," while thanking Image "for continuing the creative partnership and exploration that began with Paper Girls."

Why it matters for authors

The art is already underway. Vaughan says several issues are drawn before the first one reaches shops. The on-sale date is Wednesday, February 24, 2027, announced on October 10, 2026, and the publisher is leading with a 50-page first issue.

Shops and digital stores are both on the announcement. Image lists Amazon Kindle, Google Play, Apple's iBooks, Barnes & Noble's Nook, Kobo, Overdrive, and Hoopla next to the comic-shop date. Graphic work from this series will sit on shelves indies already use, and in library apps including Overdrive and Hoopla.

Color and letters are named, not left off the poster. IGN identifies Wilson as colorist and Fletcher as letterer, and both creators thank them in the Image release. The announcement treats those jobs as part of the reunion.

Both covers are by Chiang. Cover A and Cover B are credited to him. The release does not announce a guest-artist variant.
